Drawing her breath, she put on her calmed face, stared at the door of his office then knocks.

She cringed. But she remained calm. “A word, if you may? In private?”

The assistant left and only the two of them remained.

“So, what could have possibly brought you here, my child?”

“You said you would do anything for me, anything?”

“I will deny you nothing. I will burn this empire to the ground if that’s what you desire.”

“No, I don't need that, I only want one thing: Protection.”

“Protection? From what?” Lakan’s eyebrows furrowed.

“You failed to protect me before, I won’t fail to protect mine, she said, and she gazed down to her belly and touched it.”

Lakan understood.

“Very well, my dear. It’s time for you to go home."
