Chapter 21 - The Final Breath Before Everything Changed
The inn 's dining area was empty when you emerged from your room. Having given up on trying to sleep, you dressed and packed, deciding you couldn 't bear to spend another restless minute in that room. And so hours before dawn had risen, you sat alone at a table in the inn 's main room, a bowl of porridge half-eaten and abandoned beside your open notebook. Needing a distraction to keep you from thinking of the day 's events, you returned to the issue of testing Eren. The sound of your pen scratching against paper joined that of the crackling pops from the hearth. Across the room, a broom 's bristles brushed across the floor while cookware banged against each other, preparations for breakfast underway. Outside, you barely registered the sound of a carriage passing by, the wheels squeaking as it bumped along the cobblestone.
