Chapter 18 - Sacrifice
Eren grumbled at the twig that was stabbing him in the side, poking into his ribs like a sharp and persistent thorn. His back ached, and his wings were rigid from resting against a hard surface. For a moment, he wondered why his nest was littered with pointy sticks and clumps of solid earth, but his consciousness soon broke through the veil of sleep to remind him of where he was.
Turquoise eyes opened, squinting as they blinked up at the light cascading through the cracked wood ceiling. The sunbeams told him it was nearing mid-afternoon, and he was grateful for the extra daylength provided by the season. Though he 'd been brave enough to take flight beneath the night sky, walking amongst its shadows was something not even he was reckless enough to consider. The risk was too great, and with it came the fear of having to spend an entire night in unforgiving wilderness.
