Everything hurt. It was the first thing Anya realised.

and smelled of antiseptics. For a short moment, she feared she was back at the laboratory when she had been prisoner as a child. She opened her eyes, which made everything hurt

. She stopped breathing when she saw nothing but white walls. Her heart started beating faster. She heard the beeping of the machine next to her.

'Anya? '

Her hearing hissed.

She was scared and didn 't know where she was or what had happened, only that everything hurt '

'Anya, darling, we 're here. '

'It 's okay, sweetheart, we 're here. '

For a short moment, she didn 't recognize the voices or remembered who these sweet people could be. Then, she realised it was her parents and the horror of having temporarily forgotten them wretched her heart apart.
