Chapter 60 - special incantation
The silence is a viscous, heavy liquid that seemingly weighed down on Yuta 's shoulders. Satoru can feel the weight of it filling Yuta 's lungs, leaving the boy bereft of breath and drowning. It is as though there 's a void left where Uchiha Obito once stood, a vacuum that 's taking all the air available within the room and replacing it with nothing but emptiness and the sinking weight of history.
Satoru is near certain that Yuta had predicted that the story wouldn 't leave him any happier to have heard of it.
Satoru is also near certain that it didn 't prepare Yuta any more to hear it anyways. That 's the thing about preparing: sometimes it doesn 't make it easier, only makes it foreseeable. And, in some ways, that 's worse. Looking to the horizon and expecting a wave to crash into you only to be falling into the ocean 's depths itself without ground, and struggling to keep your head above the waves.
