Chapter 35 - for the rest of my life
Loid tells her everything. From the moment she 'd left home in the blitzing cold to this moment now, waking up. He tells her where they are, and the realization that the floors above and below her are teeming with WISE agents is jarring.
More jarring, however, is the news that Sylvia is dead. Loid discloses when he thinks it happened, and Yor can only listen numbly. She recalls a moment that messy, morbid night when Roman had suggested as much. She remembers hoping she was misunderstanding.
It isn 't until he shares how his meeting with the counsel went that the grief hits her. 'I 'll help, ' she says, voice thick.
Loid stutters to a stop mid-explanation, bemused. 'You don 't have to. She ' she 's my responsibility, as her ' mentee ' '
Even he can 't seem to wrap his head around the title. The words fight her composure on the way up. 'I want to. She 's the closest I ever came to an older sister. '
