Meeting Hashirama first was a stroke of luck he would later be very grateful for. After the first few minutes of letting his excitable personality run free Hashirama was able to calm down and have an adult conversation with him about where he was, when he was, when he had come from, the why and the how. And when they had finished discussing all the most pressing details it was nice to have a neutral party lend a sympathetic ear to the revelation that Kakashi would probably never make it back to his own time. He was stuck here in the past.

Only once he had gathered his wits and gently pushed Hashirama away from trying to comfort him did things start getting weird.
