In his first life he was alone. Not in the sense that he formed no bonds but in the sense that there was no one else around to form bonds with. Tobirama 's first life was that of a nomad, one man alone against the elements with no desire to seek the areas where others of his species had congregated in to tribes to build a more stable population.

Most would have called it a lonely existence but he lived his days in perfect contentment, exploring caves and watching new rivers form. He died alone in this life but it did not sadden him for he had no way of knowing that there was another out there in the universe waiting to meet him.
